We look forward to seeing you in Chiang Mai, Thailand!
Chiang Mai is a vibrant, culturally rich city nestled in the mountains of Northern Thailand. Whether it’s your first time or you’re returning, this city offers a unique blend of tradition, creativity and calm that makes it an ideal destination for our conference.
Here’s a short guide to help you make the most of your stay:
Getting Around:
Chiang Mai’s Old City and nearby areas are compact and easy to navigate. Here are some local transport options:
Grab: The most reliable ride-hailing app for car or motorbike rides.
Red Songthaews (shared red trucks): Flag one down and tell the driver your destination. Fares range from 30–60 THB within the city.
Tuk Tuks: Fun for short rides, be sure to negotiate your fare in advance.
Bicycle & Scooter Rentals: Available in many areas but do check your travel insurance and licence requirements if you opt for motorbikes.
Local Etiquette:
Thailand is known as the “Land of Smiles” and while the culture is welcoming, here are a few essentials to note:
Dress Modestly when visiting temples, cover shoulders and knees and remove your shoes before entering.
Show Respect: A polite wai (palms together in prayer position with a slight bow) is a traditional greeting and sign of respect.
Mind Your Feet: Don’t point your feet at people or religious objects and avoid stepping over people or food.
Quiet in Sacred Spaces: Keep voices down and phones on silent when visiting temples or participating in cultural ceremonies.
